Coz I was watching that kind of content on the YouTube the other day

And I was like I gotta do this

What do you do as a career?

I actually started my career in a large corporate in the petrol chemical industry

ExxonMobil in the petrol chemical industry

So yeah a multi bullion company and

I was earning quite a lot of money at the time that was back home in Europe

But I was stuck in a golden cage basically and

I wasn’t happy what I was doing so

I moved to Australia and then

For the last six years

I’ve been working in technology startups

Literally been doing very different things but I love it

That’s the thing

What do you do?

I work as a dentist

You are a dentist? Really?

You two are very smart people aye

In Australia you usually get paid weekly right?

In Belgium it’s usually monthly

Here in Australia I’ve been paid fortnightly but also monthly

So it depends on the company

I gotta ask

How much do you get paid?

I know my annual pay Fortnightly it’ll be around

Roughly three thousand dollars after tax

How much do you get paid?

At the moment nothing coz I’m studying again but

I think back in the day I don’t know my fortnightly one

Well see, I’m very different to most people like I’ve got a really good like a view on my finances

Yeah for the moment I can live quite comfortably but prices are increased like

I’m an accountant in Argentina

It sounds like a good money job

Yes it’s good money but

Salary in Argentina in general it’s not very well pay

If you compare to Australia I guess

Regarding professional and also not professional jobs but

It was a very good job I could earn a lot

Can I ask you how much you used to get in Argentina?

Two thousand Australia dollars

So you used to get like five hundred dollars a week And how much could you put in your saving account every week?

One thousand and five hundred

Because it’s cheaper

So could you live pretty well?

Yes, I think that if you look at the economy in general I would say yes

Because as I told you I could earn some money

But in terms of other kinds facility

Like transportation, security in Argentina

Has a lot of disadvantages

In comparison to Australia for example

You don’t feel safe in Argentina

You can’t walk in on the street at night For example

Take a walk in the park, do some running and sports

Because there are many like not wealthy people?

Fifty percent of the population of Argentina are poor

For example the last four years I suffered from the difference

My car and my bag god stolen twice

Now Argentina is unfortunately pretty dangerous

It’s one of the things that I decided to come here

It’s not only for money

But the quality of living and people Including not only the economy but other things too

When I spoke to an Argentinian lady before She told me that

Many people don’t believe in your national bank

Or like all the bank companies

So they don’t reallly put their money in the bank

They tey to have like American dollars Instead of your currency

And keep it in your house Is it true?

Yes, you are very well informed

In general people don’t trust banks We don’t trust politics

Unfortunately it’s very common to earn money to but USD

Because people don’t trust Argentinian peso

Because of the extreme high inflation

Yeah it happened before yeah?

We have about seven or eight percent of inflation Per month

Per month? That’s crazy

It’s crazy

Imagine that if you earn in Argentinian peso

If you don’t buy USD

The paper is not gonna be valuable

Unfortunately not all the people have the option to buy USD

Because the salary in general is very low

We’ve been facing an inflation right

Everything is pretty much getting more expensive However at the same time

Was your salary catching up with it?

Unfortunately not

When you have to pay the rent and services

EverydayI have to say that it’s increasing

But your salary is not

We have about two or three assessment per year in Argentina but

Every year if you compare the rate of inflation and the rate of your salary increase

Obviously people normally lose money

So you say the majority of Argentinian people are having a harder life at the moment?

Yes

If you see for example Wake Up hostel in CBD

You see a lot of Argentinian people that

Are looking for a job to earn Australian dollars which is more stable

People take like an hour to go to work Just to commute and that’s insane

I was like that in Tokyo

I used to work in a real estate It took literally an hour to get to my workplace so

It’s an easy life And there’s enough to travel and buy something

We’ve been facing an inflation

How was your situation in China?

I think everything was getting more expensive But at the same time was your salary catching up with it?

I don’t think so Absolutely not

All the price goes up but Your salary is just like an average

But I think a lot of Chinese people

Especially young people they rely on their parents

This is a Chinese culture init?

Parents really take care of their kids Even they get really old

I think it depends on whether your family can help you And whether they want to help you or rent

But I think if you live in a big city

Especially if that’s not your hometown you don’t have a house there

If you don’t get a support from your family It’s really hard

I’m from Sydney actually I was born here

I don’t live here I’m visiting I’m from London

I make scientific instruments for QPCR

QPCR is how you detect COVID

So our instruments are used to detect COVID

And we’ve been extremely busy for the last two years as you can imagine

How do I ask questions?

Because I was asking people how much do you earn a month?

But I know that you can get paid from your company right?

I could give you an example One of my engineers

A software engineer He might earn a hundred fifty thousand Australian dollars a year

How old is he?

He might be thirty five

Kids coming out of university are getting eighty thousand Australian dollars and

If they are any good They’ll get a hundred thousand after the first year in work

I should apply to your company yeah?

This is how you gotta pay people in Australia

Because if not they’ll get pouched by People like Microsoft

Big multi nationals They’ll just take them a away so

The labor market here is very tight

And you gotta pay people probably A bit of premium right now

So it sounds like workers in your company Can live quite well

Even in Australia where it’s pretty expensive

So my factory is up in Brisbane

And Brisbane is substantially cheaper than Sydney

Sydney is one of the most expensive cities in the country Probably followed by Melbourne

And then you got Brisbane so

So my guys prefer to live up there

Because life is cheaper they can but a house So they can have space They can have a family, children

And a hundred fifty thousand dollars Maybe their wife’s earning eighty thousand dollars

Combined income They’ve got a good lifestyle

I’m pretty sure

Last question is gonna be like this

Because of the global situation We’ve been facing an inflation nowadays

What about your company?

Do you pay more nowadays to the workers Because of the inflation?

So we had to give them a wage rise to keep everybody happy

But five percent dosen’t really cut Coz the inflation is ten

Or even more

And it depends what you are talking about

If you are talking power bills It’s like twenty percent more

If you are talking food maybe it’s ten percent more

So it depends how you measure inflation

And the government obviously likes to pick matrices They make it a low number

So nobody panics

But it’s a lot higher than you think

And inflation is filled by the building industry

And from what I can gather

I mean I made my building a property here in Sydney right now

Things cost double

A carpenter charges a hundred and forty dollars an hour

So no responsibility He just rocks up dose his carpentry

And collects a hundred forty bucks an hour

That’s crazy

It’s nuts

So the problem is that the whole society is based around real estate

Coz everybody owns a home And everybody’s like “What’s my home worth?”

And that’s what kinda pegs inflation

So if the cost of building material us going up

Cost of labor is going up

It’s gonna drive inflation up and Everything else up around it

That’s how it works

It’s kind of like unstoppable now

A hundred forty per hour for labor That’s crazy

And look what’s gonna happen is

All of this stuff’s gonna come to grinding halt

And it’s the end of cheap money

I mean I know in Japan They have zero interest rate for the last twenty years

I’m not sure if it’s gonna work anymore or not but

They can’t continue to do that anymore

ANd here the interest is gonna go up

The economy is gonna slow down

And all of those people who are demanding a hundred forty dollars an hour

They are gonna have to take seventy dollars one hour in about eighteen months time

That was like a big education in this five minutes

Global recession is coming guys

Get out of leverage Do not leverage yourself

Don’t borrow money

Only but what you can afford

We’ll see in a year or two
