Oki doki

Thank you very much for your help

Where are you from?

I’m from Sydney

So I was born in London But I lived here basically my whole life

Very good

Beautiful girl from London Thank you

And you are from?

I’m from Bondi in Sydney

Very beautiful

Actually I came here yesterday

Don’t worry! No Corona

Yesterday I came here from Japan

Bondi Beach my friend told me

It’s the very good ocean

How are you?

I’m good yeah

We’ve had a little shopping day

Done some branching in the morning so it’s nice

I’m fine, thank you!

How are you?

I’m good as well

I’m day off work It’s nice

Holiday today?

One day off a week

No holiday? One day off?

One day off yeah

So what’s holiday?

Well, holiday is more of like an extended time

So you can have two weeks off

Longer off

What are you doing today?

Today we’re just having a bit of girls day

Doing some shopping and lunch

I’m an English teacher in Japan

Teaching English to my students and

Student’s future will be very good if they can speak English

So I everyday teach English I’m a great English teacher

Everyday I teach English conversation to kids but

People think my Samurai accent

We call it Samurai accent, is very strong

Do you think so?

A little bit

But your English is really good

Considering English is a really hard language to learn

I mean I’ve tried to learn some languages

I tried to learn Spanish It was so hard

So I commend you You are doing very well

But you look like a very smart girl

Sorry?

Smart Do you know smart?

No

SMART

Smart?

Smart? Okay

You guys look like very smart people

What do you think?

Accent is very sexy, isn’t it?

Because I think French girls are very beautiful

People like French people

French girls are very beautiful but

French girls with French accent are

extra beautiful

Japanese man with Japanese accent What do you think?

I think it’s a nice accent

Although it can be a little hard to understand sometimes

So we go slow

Though I think it’s gorgeous

Oh thank you

Sorry guys, I actually can speak English

Really?

So in this video I wanted to find out

If I speak with a thick Japanese accent

If you can understand it

Could you understand everything?

At sometimes I had to pause just a little bit

But you were doing well

Could you understand?

Yeah, I used to work in retail, hospitality

So I feel like I can like get accents

I had to be able to pick up an accent

I’m pretty sure like you said in your workplace or in your life

You talk to someone from non-native English speaking country

And you are kind of used to it

Coz this is Australia where diversity is here but

What is the main factor that makes you feel

A little bit hard to understand the contents from an English conversation?

Is it pronunciation or grammatical structure?

Or could it be like vocabulary? What do you think?

Maybe it’s just pronunciation

Probably it’s just pronunciation but

When I go overseas I find people find my accent hard to understand as well

Australian accent?

Like my pronunciation of English words is pretty bad a lot of time

So I don’t know I don’t find it too difficult but

I find that sentence structure Even if someone has maybe broken English

You can still figure it out

You know what they’re kind of like saying

As long as they have vocabulary and say

A hundred percent

This is really good to know

Thank you very much ladies, oh sorry

Than kyou very much

2組目 シドニー出身の2人組に聞いてみた!

Oh my god! You guys are very tall

How are you?

Good, how are you?

Very thank you

How are you?

Good, thank you

Where are you from?

We are from Sydney originally

How old are you guys?

Nineteen

I’m twenty six

Twenty six and nineteen?

You two are very tall

I’m thirty one by the way

When I was a child, I was like this

When I was nineteen, I was like this

You guys are very tall

I saw you guys from behind holding hands

Are you guys dating yeah?

Yeah, we are in a relationship

Beautiful!

What do you guys usually do on a date?

We go rock climbing all the time

Bowling

Rock climbing and Bowling?

You two are very active people huh?

I’m from Japan

In Japan we still don’t see

Many gay couples holding hands

But I think it’s a very beautiful thing

You can do whatever you feel like to do

This is a beautiful thing

I like Australian because of this as well

People are very respectful

I came to here a little bit time ago

And I work in a Japanese restaurant

Sushi you know

And sometimes I say to customers

“You can s*it down here”

And the customer said “Why s*it down?”

I didn’t know …

Sit donw?

Not s*it down

Japanese English is very dangerous in this country

“You can s*it down” is not good

But do you think my Japanese English is very strong?

It’s very easy to understand

I don’t think it’s super hard

Even I speak like this, people can understand me?

Yeah absolutely

So guys I can speak ENglish properly

So I just wanted to know if I speak with a think Japanese accent

Australian people can understand or not

Because many Japanese people come here for Working holiday or as a student

People are really worried about their accent

Because we have like I said a think Japanese accent

Which is called Samurai accent

They kind of hesitate to speak out loud

But you can understand it, hey?

Absolutely

Just piece it together it’s not like

It’s not difficult

So last question is gonna be like this

What do you think is the factor that makes you feel

Harder to understand the contents from the conversation?

I would say the structure of sentences That is a really big part in people’s understanding

Coz I guess people are customed in English

To speak a certain type of way Phrase sentences in certain type of way

And even me bring Greek I have a language of my own

And when I say that it structures differently

We wouldn’t say in the same way “Pass me a glass of water”

The words are shuffled around a little bit

Like Japanese in a different order yeah?

So I think what it is

Is just learning a way to help people understand

Because first off some people are very ignorant towards immigrants

very ignorant towards trying to understand other people

So I think what you are doing is great and

Just finding people who actually care enough to wanna hear

And wanna understand is the biggest thing

Like kind people like you guys, hey

Pronunciation is not really big deal, hey

It’s harder to understand but you can still understand

If you choose to understand

If you choose to understand! That’s the thing

Alright be brave people

Thank you very much

3組目 シドニー出身の2人組に聞いてみた!

Thank you very much for your help

Where are you from?

Sydney Auatralia

An Australian person?

Same

What are you doing today?

Well, we both just finished uni and now we are just going to shopping for a bit

Student?

Yeah

Very young?

Yeah

Today is Thursday?

Is it?

Wednesday

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday…

Wednesday

Difficult

Pronunciation is very important but

It seems like you can understand me

Yeah

Sometimes I see French girls

French girls are very beautiful

But for me French girls with their accent are more beautiful

Accent is beautiful for me

What do you think about my accent?

Hmm…

Not so much

What do you think?

I think it’s really cool

Really cool?

I think it’s a nice accent to listen to I like it

Australian young people say

My Samurai accent is very strong

But I’m an English teacher in Japan

I teach English conversation to kids

Do you think it’s strong?

I think your accent is strong

Like when we go overseas people think that we …

Like some people can’t understand me like in America

Your Australian accent?

Yeah, they say it’s too strong and they can’t hear what I’m saying

Even you speak English?

Yeah like

In like place like Los, Vegas

They are just like I don’t know what you’re saying right now

And I’m like I’m speaking English to you

So actually I can speak English properly

I just wanted to know

A lot of Japanese people come here with Working holiday visa and student visa

They are really worried about their accent

Because like I said we have a think Samurai accent Japanese accent

And they hesitate to speak

But seems like you can understand, hey?

Yeah

You do have to like think a tiny bit harder

When there is a like strong accent

But you can still understand

Thank you very much girls, or no sorry

Thank you very much

4組目 タイ出身の2人組に聞いてみた!

Very bad weather today

Raining from this morning all the time

By the way, how are you?

I’m good, thank you

I’m doing well

I’m fine, thank you

Where are you from?

I’m literally living in Australia

But we are literally from Perth

Rachel is living in Australia?

Yeah…

We are actually like tourists as well

Oh you are Australian now

No no no

Actually we are originally from Thailand

Thailand? I like Thailand

I thought you are Australian because your English is very good

Thank you But not yet

Why so good?

Why is my English so good?

I finished my uni here That’s why I guess

I’ve been here in Sydney for a couple of days

Worked in Japanese restaurants in many places in the world but

Sometimes my customers say my English accent is

Very strong

Why? Not so strong

I’m actually in Japan an English teacher

People think it’s very strong

Why? do you think so?

For me because we have so many Japanese friends

We are kind of like getting used to it

We got some friends from Osaka

If you have friends, you hear accents a lot and

You are very okay with it now?

Okay for me

Easy?

I love Japan coz I’ve been there for four times already

Japan is really nice

Thank you

I like Thai accent

Khob khun krab

What do you think about Japanese accent?

Accent is cool, isn’t it?

At first it might be hard to catch up but

It’s very difficult to understand?

A little bit difficult to catch up at first

But when we’ve been together And then you get used to it

You’ll get whatever they say like

Whatever you said I understand everything that you mentioned

Maybe when I see you for the first time It could be a little bit hard for some days

For catching up but

After that when we get used to it I think it’s alright

I think I got confused when Japanese people said like

Mcdonald’s They are not exactly like the same

McDonald’s, isn’t it?

Fa…

It’s really hard to catch it

How do you say it?

McDonald’s

What the f**k is that?

McDonald’s?

So gentlemen, I can actually speak English properly

But the concept of this video is

I wanted to understand If I speak with a think Japanese accent If you can understand

Because like you said a lot of Japanese people

Come from Japan to Australia Or wherever in the world

They are worried about their accent or grammatical structure or whatever

And they hesitate to speak to non-Japanese people

But I reckon you guys could understand everything , hey?

I think it’s because we’ve got a lot of friends

That’s why we try to understand what they are trying to speak to us

Last question is gonna be like this

Which factor do you think is the one

That makes it harder for you guys to understand the contents from the conversation?

Is it like a bad grammatical structure or

If the pronunciation is bad or Is it difficult to understand or?

For me there are omly two things

One is accent

And another one is gonna be like

Vocabulary

Coz not everyone can guess every single word

You gotta know some vocabulary hey

So even the accent is a little bit bad

As long as you have the vocabulary and say things

You can kinda get used to it and understand eventually

Sometimes we can guess the word

We catch some key words

Alright, thank you very much gentlemen

I think people learnt a lot from you guys

Thank you for your time

Khob khun krab
