Thank you very much for your help

Where are you from?

From France

Beautiful ladies with the beautiful view

What can I say? Couldn’t be better

You’ve been in Australia for a long time now?

It’s ben four months now

Three months for me

Do you travel much?

Have you been to any other countries?

Indonesia and a lot of Europe too

Why didn’t come to Japan?

I want to

I wanted you to come to Japan

I will for sure

How about you?

I did Europe and I came to Australia to see her

You are friends from France

Any Asian countries?

No, I never did but I want to as well

I want you to come to Japan as well

In this video it’s very random but I wanna ask you some questions about cultures

Since I’ve been in Australia seven years almost

And also I’ve been to many European countries

Unfortunately not France but many European countries

And I had many culture shocks

“Oh my god! Do you guys do that!?”

So I’m gonna ask you about that

Some of them I experienced by myself

Some of them I just googled

And apparently there are some cultures like that so

Please let me know if you really do that in your country as well

This is the most surprising thing that

People eat or drink in a supermarket before they actually pay

We do that I already did that

I never did

So what do you think? This is not a right thing to do?

No, it’s strange for me

But you did that?

I did

I mean I’m not judging you but is it okay?

Yeah nobody tole me nothing so I guess it is but

Some people just drink a whole bottle and then

Pay for the empty bottles it’s strange but

Do Fench people FaceTime on public transport?

Yeah, they do

What do you think though? Is this rude or okay?

I think it’s okay

People don’t notice

They just do it naturally?

Different perspective interesting

Because in Japan you can’t speak on the phone on a train or a bus

It’s our common sense that you need to be quite

But different culture

Even when you are sick, you don’t wear a mask

No, that’s right

This is the Western culture yeah?

When we don’t have to, we don’t

Kissing in front of people kissing in a restaurant kissing in a shop, okay?

They do that

What do you think?

For me it’s strange

Maybe you are a little bit conservative

I did that so

No, I mean it’s good to hear the real opinion so

But lots of people do that

So let me give you some Japanese things that we see in Japan, okay?

Tell me how you feel?

When we eat ramen noodle, can we so sipping?

We try not to

You mean you do?

Yeah we do that

Can I do that in your country?

You can do it but I don’t like it

She dosen’t like noise with mouth

I don’t like it too

But I need to ask you you eat noodle, right? Sometimes you go to an Asian restaurant

How do you eat noodle?

Sometimes like this with fork

It’s not pasta mate

This is very Japanese

We are quite modest

So modest means that when someone says

“Oh my god! You are so beautiful” “You are so great” “You are so smart”

And we say “Not really”

This is modest we do that like being humble

Do you have that sort of culture?

Yeah I think so

I mean it depends on people but

Don’t you say “Yeah, I know! Thank you”?

No, not really

We Japanese try to be polite when we are speaking to someone older than us

So even three years older than me

I’ll try to use formal words

A different way to speak

Do you have that kind of culture?

Yeah

You do?

You don’t talk like friends if the person is like five years older?

Never

Ehh!? I didn’t know that

We use different words like

If I say “You” to her

I won’t say the same “You” to an older person

Coz in Australia everyone’s mate

“Hey mate, how you going mate?”

Lastly, let’s say Japanese people who are watching this are going to France

Do you have anything that you say “Hey, you better not to do this in my country”

I think you are very polite people in Japan so I don’t know what to say

What can be rude in France like

People tend to do this but not in my country?

To throw things like rubbish in the street

So don’t do that! Hundred percent

Okay, thank you very much!

Merci beaucoup

Where are you from?

I’m from Bangladesh

You live in Australia for a long time now?

It’s been almost three and half years

Do you travel much? Have you ever been to any other countries?

I have visited India, Nepal some of these countries

Around Bangladesh

I wanna ask you some questions about cultures and habits

I don’t know much about the culture around there

But when you go to like India or Nepal Even Australia

Have you ever experienced any cultures that shocked you?

India is not much because our subcontinent cultures are almost the same

So yeah in Australia and in Nepal everything

Everything was culture shock for me

For example when you go eat to a restaurant

We don’t usually say thank you as much as Australia say

I feel that’s really good

Yeah being polite

It’s not us being impolite it’s just

We don’t say it

DIfferent culture

I’ve experienced a lot of cultures that shocked me since I came here

And also I’ve been to many countries like Europe in Asia, stuff like that

Many cultures shocked me

And also I picked up some from Google

So now I’m gonna talk about these cultures not Japanese cultures but

Please let me know if you can see the same thing in your country or not

People eat or drink before they actually pay in supermarket

Can you do that in Bangladesh?

Not really

You have to first pay for the products and then you eat

People wear no mask even when you are sick

No, we don’t wear a mask

Even you are feeling a little bit ill you don’t wear a mask?

No

People don’t use umbrella when it’s raining

We use umbrella we use raincoat

You know in Western country people kiss on the street people kiss in a restaurant

Do you do that?

No

Basically because firstly it’s not in pur culture

You can’t show the public affection

Is it illigal?

No, it’s not illegal

Against moral?

Moral and religious reasons

Because Bangladesh is mostly Muslim populated country

So we are not usually very comfortable showing the public affection

So that’s a culture yeah

Do you guys FaceTime in public transport in your country?

We do talk but we don’t do a video calling

But you can talk still?

We can talk and people talk loud

Isn’t it like a rude thing or is it okay?

In our culture we take it as it is

It’s very comfortable

Then now I’m gonna talk about some cultures that we tend to have in Japan

And let me know how you feel about it

When you are eating ramen, you sip

We do

Give a peace sign when you take a photo

Do you do that?

We do a lot

In your country can you sleep in public transport like trains or buses?

Well, you can it’s very often

When I was in Bangladesh I used to do that a lot

Because a lot of traffic jam and lots of traffic in the road so

How you pass your time you listen to music and you sleep

In Japan when you talk to someone if the person is older than you

You kinda have to be polite

Do you have that sort of culture?

Definitely! It’s very dominant in our culture so

You call them differently

For example in “You” “You” means everyone in Australia in English culture

But in us you have three different versions

So for elderly people one

For your people one

Your friends one

It’s our morality

From child we’ve been told that you have to respect elder people

What we do in our culture we address them in a different way

So the feel like respected

So how about if he was three years older thank you

Do you talk to him with a polite language?

No, probably I wouldn’t have ice cream with him at this point

Even just three years older than you?

This is interesting

He has to be very close to me then yeah probably

Otherwise randomly no you can’t

More extreme than Japanese culture then

It’s mostly in Muslim culture we can say

Not in Bangladeshi culture

It’s not only in Bangladeshi culture even if you go to India, Pakistan

Like these countries have the same way

So the last question is gonna be like this

Let’s say Japanese people who are watching this are going to Bangladesh

Do you have anything that you say “You better not to so this in my country”?

I think in this world the most polite nation will be Japan

If you see the World Cup Japan is the only country they probably

Even they are winning, they clean the stadium

You even know that

Yeah everyone knows that

I mean the dressing room they’re cleaning up and keeping it tidy and neat

And then going back I mean that’s

Only one nation can do this which is Japan

So probably the public affection

They don’t show that’S better otherwise

We really respect our foreigners who come to our country

There’s no rules for them honestly

Thank you very much yeah

How can I say thank you in your language?

Where are you from?

We are from Denmark

Me too

How come all Danish people can speak English? I don’t understand

Every single person can speak English

Do you guys travel much?

Have you ever been to any countries except Australia?

Yeah actually we went to Japan together five years ago

Where about?

Tokyo and Kyoto

Being a typical tourist aye?

I mean Tokyo’s amazing I used to live there

Kyoto even for Japanese people is a beautiful place

So you can’t miss it

Did you love it?

Oh yes

It was amazing

We went to some small city where there’s like deers in the streets

Nara

I haven’t even been there

You are more Japanese then I am then

This is a great opportunity for me to be able to ask you guys who have been to Japan

Even in Japan or in any other countries have you ever experienced amy culture that shocked you?

A small thing that shocked me was the public transport is always on time

It’s never on time in Denmark

That was amazing

So now I’m gonna give you some cultures and habits

That I experienced and I was shocked outside Japan

Could you tell me if you can see the same thing in your country?

People eat or drink in a supermarket before they actually pay

Yeah you can do that

I mean like you can eat like a candy bar and take the wrapper to pay and like

I eat this and I’m paying for it

So you can eat first and you can pay later?

Yeah like take an apple and eat stuff of it

I haven’t done that but maybe

It’s not gonna be issues?

No, when you go to like a hungry shopping and

You have a long list you just take a little piece

You know it’s a crime in Japan

But I was surprised to see because many people do that here

Having FaceTime inside a public transport

You can but you are very quite about it like

You wouldn’t be like

Or is it rude to say Americans do that?

Australians as well sometimes

No yeah so you can but don’t be too loud

How about this in Denmark

Talk to strangers on the street

We just talked about that actually

We don’t really do that

I’m from a very small town in Denmark

There you say like you kind of say hi when you go for a run and pass someone but

Like is a big city you don’t as all

I’m from Copenhagen you don’t

But like if you can tell people are from another country then it’s like then we can talk to you

When you are feeling sick, do you wear a mask?

Before we went to Japan I’d never seen a person with a mask on the street

That was pre COVID so that was five years ago

I had never seen a person with a mask like in a public transport or in the street

So you don’t really have a culture that you wear a mask?

People don’t use umbrella even if it’s raining

Western people just tend to get wet

They don’t use umbrella

We do but most of us wear like a raincoat

We usually bike everywhere

And it rains so much so

But it was fun in Japan you have all these like little umbrella holders when you go into places

Coz everyone use umbrellas there

So now I’m gonna quickly give you some Japanese cultures

Japanese things that we see in Japan

And please let me know how you think about it

Doing the peace sign in front of camera do you do that?

No, children do that

Coz it’s a very Japanese thing I think

In Japan we try to be polite when a person you are talking to it older than you

Just older than you then you have to be polite to the person

Do you think about it?

No at all if I have to be honest

You can be polite to everyone it dosen’t like

It’s not about age

Japanese girls tend to say “You got skinnier”

Not many people say “You got fatter” but

“Hey, you became skinner” or something like that

Maybe it’s the first time you see the person in a week or something

Can you say something like that related to body shape?

I think you can say it but it’s like turning around a little bit right now

I mean we used to say like a lot like in the ninety’s, zero I think

But in twenty twenty two you don’t really say that

I think it’s kind of rude to comment on people’s weight like that

The last question is gonna be like this

Let’s say Japanese who are watching this are going to Denmark

Do you have anything that you say “You better not to so this in my country”?

It can be rude

We judge each other a lot but we are quite accepting towards foreigners

DOn’t you think so?

Oh yeah actually that’s true

We just each other a lot but

Don’t talk to me if I don’t know you and stuff

But if a foreigner does that we are like easy yeah come

So I think like there is I don’t tink there is no no that you can’t do

Beautiful answers from beautiful ladies

Thank you very much for your help

Where are you from?

Argentina

You’ve been in Australia for a long time now?

Almost four months

Do you travel much?

Have you been to any other countries except Australia?

Yeah all in South America

Even in South America

Argentina culture and also other South American cultures

Must be quite different right?

Yeah a lot

Have you ever experienced any cultural shocks?

More in Australia because it’s very different to America right

People here eat something before they pay in the supermarket

People do that here

In Argentina if you so that you go to jail

I was actually gonna ask you about this because

Like I see them in supermarkets

They just pick up food and start eating before they pay

That’s a crime in Japan too

So this is one oh the cultures that shocked me since I came here

I’m gonna ask you some questions about it

Please let me know if you do that in your country or if you don’t do that

Doing FaceTime in public transport

It’s impossible

Also it’s dangerous

Having a phone in the streets is quite dangerous

So no Polemon Go?

No no no no

People talk to strangers on the street

Do you talk to strangers on the street?

Impossible

Here yes but not in our country

How about people cross at a crosswalk when it’s red light

All the time and also with cars

With cars?

Are you guys not scared of getting caught by police?

No, it’s difficult for you to get caught

Also it’s dangerous because

If you stay in the red light at night

It’s also dangerous that’s why you cross at red

So it’s technically illegal but you can actually go to be safe

Yeah

Different culture aye

Do you use an umbrella when it’s raining?

Never

I’m always very wet

This is very like a foreign culture for us

Now I’m gonna give you some Japanese cultures and please let me know how you think about it

Lifting up dishes when you eat

When we drink a soup, we drink like this

Do you do that?

All the time

Also we do that with hands

People shouldn’t blow their nose in front of people

Can you do that in front of people?

Yeah all the time

Telling someone “You got skinnier”

Never never! It’s so rude

Don’t do that in Argentina definitely

You try to be polite when a person you are talking to is older than you

Yeah we have respect for olders

Oh really? Similar to Japan

Lastly I wanna ask you let’s say if people watching this are going to Argentina

Do you have anything that you say “You better not to do this in my country”?

You don’t have to talk with strangers

Always with people that you know

It’s also dangerous and it’s strange

And try not to do Pokemon Go in the street in Argentina

Never use a cellphone alone in the street

Don’t even use a cellphone in the street?

No, it’s dangerous

We use it but like

Change in a second and you keep it again because it’s dangerous

Thank you very much for teaching me

5組 ニュージーランド出身の2人組の女性に聞いてみた!

Where are you from?

New Zealand

Have you traveled much?

Have you been to any other countries expect Australia?

Yeah a bit

I’ve been to Japan actually

But when I was quite young

And then also been to Europe

I’ve done like SIngapore, Hong Kong

Macau, the Philippines

Many Asian countries

So you’ve seen many different cultures yeah?

Must be different from New Zealand culture

So I’m gonna ask you some questions about cultures today

Now I have a list of things that shocked me

So those cultures they are very different from Japanese cultures

Some are what I experienced some are from Google

Anyway I’m gonna talk about it

Please let me know if you can teh same thing in your country

The first thing it’s gonna be this is the most shocking one to be honest

People eat or drink before they actually pay in supermarket

Do you guys do that in New Zealand?

Yes

Is it an okay thing to do?

Yeah coz it’s got a price tag on it

So then when they scan it, it’s the relevant price

As long as you are obviously going to within teaching that you are paying for it

So as long as you are paying for it, no problem?

Yeah

Can you FaceTime in public transport? Do people do that?

Yeah

Coz you are on your own conversation with somebody else

Just like you are talking to somebody else sitting next to you on the bus

This is interesting to see a different perspective

It’s not good or bad but U don’t think Japanese will take it like that

Take away leftovers in restaurant

Yes, it’s called “Doggy bag”

So now I7m gonna give you give some Japanese cultures

The things that we see in Japan

And please let me know how you think about it

People sip when we eat noodles

I personally hate the slurping sound

It drives me up the wall

How do you wat ramen noodle?

Try to eat quietly?

Take your time

Don’t burn yourself

When someone says “You’re beautiful, great and so smart”

We say “Not really”

How do you say this?

Humble?

Being a humble or

Being modest

Do you have that kind of attitude?

I think Kiwis do more so than Aussies

Compliments sometimes are bit awkward to take

I thought you guys are just gonna say

“Thank you!I’ll take it”

So the last question is gonna be like this

Let’s say Japanese who are watching this are coming to New Zealand

Do you have anything that you say “You better not to do that in my country”?

Maybe spitting

Spitting on the street

Some people do that yeah

There is no point in wearing a Covid mask if you are gonna spit on the ground

That is so true

Thank you very much!
