1組目 スペイン出身の女性に聞いてみた!

Where are you from?

I’m Spanish

I like your glasses by the way

Thank you

What are you up to today?

Just going home I have to do some studies

What do you study?

National security

You gotta secure yourself aye coz you look beautiful

I’m a very dangerous woman

I’m scared now

I wanna ask you some question about cultures today

Cultures and events of your country and my country Japan

So please think about some unique cultures or events in your country

In the meantime I’m gonna tell you some unique ones that we have in Japan

So after you hear these ones Please tell me if we can see the same things in Spain

Or it’s completely different

Let’s say one, Christmas Christmas in Japan

Some families get together and have dinner together Or something like that

But usually it sounds like more a romantic day for couples

Couples go on a date, have a nice meal

Maybe exchange some presents and stuff like that

So it’s a romantic day and that’s Christmas for us

Is it like that for you?

No, totally different

Christmas is a family day

But rather than getting together on the twenty fifth

Families get together on twenty fourth Christmas Eve for dinner

So what do you do for twenty fifth?

I don’t know if you know that We don’t have Santa Claus

You don’t have a Santa Claus

We do now because the world is more globalized but

Because Spain is mainly a catholic country

So traditionally in Spain The day kids open their presents is on sixth of January in the morning

So when I was a kid

I never got a present on the twenty fifth

It was always on sixth of January

But noe\w because of you know all these Hollywood movies and globalization

They do also like on twenty fifth

Now they get present twice on the twenty fifth and six of January

The second one is New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve

So on New Year’s Eve we Japanese eat Soba noodle

I don’t know if you know Soba noodle It’s like a kind of noodle

To enter a new year

And also on New Year’s Day Many people go to a shrine or a temple to pray

And actually draw a fortune paper to see how lucky you can be in the year

So it says super lucky, lucky, so so, unlucky

And many people believe actually

Do you have something like that?

We do grapes at midnight

They are called “Lucky grapes”

On New Year’s Eve twelve seconds before midnight

So you’re meant to eat twelve grapes

Many people actually get choked

So you are watching tv with your family obviously

Twelve seconds before midnight And you are meant to eat twelve grapes and that’s for luck

We have a ceremony called Seijinshiki

So Seijinshiki is a ceremony to celebrate turning twenty years old

Because eat twenty years old you are adult in Japan

So you go there with Kimono the Japanese traditional dress

Or some people wear a suit

Attend a ceremony and take pictures with your old mates

Or family, stuff like that

Do you have some ceremonies like that?

Not really

Some people when they turn eighteen they like

Throw a party just like kind of cerebrate you are getting to the adulthood

Just among your friends?

The friends and family but

I don’t think it’s something that many people do these days anymore

In mid August we call the season “Obon”

So Obon is when it’s like Many people go back home

I used to work in Tokyo but my hometown is a countryside

So in mid August I go back for like a week

And stay with my family

And we go to cemeteries to clean up

We wash the stones and stuff like that

To appreciate our ancestors

We don’t really have anything like that but

To remember our ancestor

We got the first of November which is

It’s the day of the deceased people

What do you do?

Normally on the day you’d go to the cemetery See any members of your family who passed away

And you visit on the day

It’s similar to Obon maybe

When you go to a Japanese wedding you gotta bring

About three hundred dollars like as a gift

Do you have something like that sort of culture?

We do give money

Like when couple get married They would throw a banquet

And they’d pay certain amount of money for each guest that is coming

Let’s say a hundred euros

It’s good to give them at least something that covers that

So let’s say if the couple is going to spend

A hundred euros per person to attend the banquet

And more or less you know the price of like

How much it costs for the wedding

So you’d give them maybe a hundred fifty euros per person

So it’s like a common sense that you gotta do in Spanish weddings

Everybody gives money like at least to cover that

It’s like customers

Last question is gonna be like this

Do you have some unique ones, events, cultures Anything from Spain?

I’d say Easter

Normally in every country it’s like a weekend They go from Friday to Monday

We take nine days in Spain

So we remember all the stages that Jusus went through Until he died in the cross and he resurrected

We call it procession

Basically they take the image of the Jesus to the street

So if you believe you will be there

Alright interesting

Thank you very much for your education me with your culture

Enjoy your day

2組目 ギリシャ出身の女性2人組に聞いてみた!

Where are you from?

I’m from Greece

Me too

What are you guys up to? In this beautiful weather you’re sitting on the beach

Just tanning, relaxing

Studying?

Tanning

On getting tanned

We are just enjoying the winter sun

The sun’s enjoying you guys I believe

In this video it’s very random but I wanna ask you some questions about

Cultures and events of your country and my country Japan

So please think about some unique ones Unique cultures and events that you have That exist in your country

But in the meantime I will talk about some unique ones That we have in Japan

After you hear them please let me know If you can see the same thing in your country

Or like I don’t do this or something like that

On Christmas in Japan some families gather

But it’s more like a romantic day for couples

So couples usually go on a romantic date

And have a special dinner and maybe exchange some presents to each other

Do you have something like that?

Yeah everyday you can do that Not only on Christmas

I think Christmas is all about family in Greece

It’s not romantic day?

No

New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day

So on New Year’s Eve we eat noodle called soba

Ah I know that

To enter a new year

And also on New Year’s Day

Many people go to pray to a shrine or a temple

And we draw like a paper

To see how lucky you are gonna be in the year

Do you believe what you got or not?

I don’t but many people do

Do you do something like that?

So on New Year’s Eve we don’t do anything like this

But on New Year’s Eve what we do is We go around and sing carols

Can you sing it for us?

I’m too shy

So we go around to houses and we sing carols and

They give us money

And then on New Year’s Day we do something similar like in Japan

We bake a cake

And in the cake we put a coin

And whoever finds the coin

It’s the lucky year

Really?

This is interesting

Have you done it?

Yes

We have a ceremony called Seijinshiki to cerebrate your twenty years old

Everyone dress up with Kimono, the Japanese dress

Or like some people wear suits

And take pictures with old friends and family

Do you have something like that?

No, we don’t

We just cerebrate birthdays like normal birthday party

We don’t really mark specific years

In mid August it’s a season called “Obon” in Japan

People come back home

I used to work in Tokyo but my hometown is like north west in Japan

So I go home in the season

We actually go to cemetery to wash up and to clean up

To pray and appreciate ancestors

Do you have some seasons like that?

Nope

When you go to a wedding in Japan

You need to bring like three hundred dollars as a gift

This is like a common sense

It has to be three hundred?

It has to be odd number

Do you have something like that? Do you bring money to weddings?

Yes

Most of the time is money not present

It’s more like a business The wedding inside is like

I’ll come to your wedding and I’ll give you money

Then you come to my wedding and do the same

It’s similar to Japan yeah?

Yes, I mean it’s the same thing

But we don’t have the exact number

As much money you can give

How much would you bring?

I’m not too sure coz I don’t really go to Greek weddings but

It depends how close you are with the couple

Let’s say you are my friend I’m gonna give three hundred euros

If I don’t know the person so much It’s fifty euros

That’s enough?

And something that we normally do is like older tradition

Instead of giving the money on the wedding day

Is that a day before?

Three days before

Three days before the wedding day You go to the bride’s house and

Everybody goes to her bedroom and put money on the bed

On the mattress yes

To be wealthy

That’s interesting I’ve never heard of it

Last question is gonna be like this

Do you have any unique cultures or Events that exist in your country?

Easter is really bin in Greece so it’s bigger than Christmas

Especially where I am from it’s an island called Corfu It’s next to Italy

The traditions are amazing like we

We have morning bands everyday and

They maech in town

But something crazy that we do is

The day of the resurrection at eleven am

Everybody goes to Corfu town and

They smash pots from their balconies

It’s really famous worldwide

I might have seen it on a tv show or something

It’s specific pot so they can be small They can be really big

And filled up with water and they smash it from the balcony

And that’s basically the meaning of the symbol of To scare the evil away

Make sense

It’s really impressive

Thank you very much ladies

Nice to meet you

3組目 イングランド、ブラジル出身の2人組に聞いてみた!

Where are you from?

I’m from England

And I’m from Brazil

That’s why you are good at speaking English yeah

What are you up to today?

We’ve just finished work

So we work in a cafe just down at the beach

Are you colleagues?

Yeah we work together

So we just finished work and we are just walking back to Queenscliff

So it’s very random but I’m gonna talk about events and cultures

Of your country and Japan in this video

So please think about some unique cultures and events that you have in your country

Anything’s fine Each country must have something right

So in the meantime I’m gonna tell you some unique ones that we have in Japan

And please let me know if we can see the same thing in your country or like we don’t do it Or Anything like that

On Christmas in Japan some families gather

But it’s more like a romantic day for couples

Oh wow! Really?

Couples go on like a romantic date

And maybe exchange presents to each other

Obviously some adults give presents to child as well

But it’s mainly kind of like a romantic day

Like Valentine’s Day?

Do you have Valentine’s Day?

We do but

Let’s talk about Valentine’s Day

On Valentine’s Day women give chocolate to men

Isn’t it like that in your country?

No way

The other way?

Yeah

But it’s not chocolate, is it?

No ah

Chocolate, roses, cars

What do you do on Valentine’s Day?

I think on Valentine’s Day when you are younger I think you go a little bit more extreme but

When you get older it’s more just about spending time with the person who you are with

And then it’ll just be something like a dinner or Maybe something nice but you just spend quality time together

So it’s not about chocolate but it’s still sweet

No, there is still chocolate

How about Christmas?

Christmas is more family’s

So it’s like everybody get together Like it’s more of like family day where

For me personally it’s like I spend the day with but then at the night I spend it with my friends

So I go to a party in the night

Oh both?

To me it’s different we usually spend the afternoon on twenty fourth With our friends

But then we have dinner at night on the twenty fourth So on Christmas Eve we have a dinner together

At exactly midnight

You cannot eat before

I thought for you guys it’s only for family

But you also have a fun with friends

On New Year’s Eve and on New Year’s Day

We usually have noodle called soba Soba noodle to enter a new year

And also on New Year’s Day Many people go to like a shrine or a temple to pray

And draw a fortune paper to see like How lucky you can be in the year

So some say super lucky, lucky, so so, not lucky

Do you do that kind of stuff?

No

In England we drink

Be very English yeah?

In Brazil I think it’s the same man

We don’t party on New Year’s Day

We part on New Year’s Eve

We do both

Do it’s usually for friends?

For friends yes

Yes

We have a ceremony called seijinshiki To cerebrate turning twenty

Coming of age you can call it

People dress up with kimono

Judo?

No judo

Like with sleeves

Coz we call kimono for judo in Brazil

And take pictures with old mates and family and stuff like that

Do you have a cerebration like that?

We have a cerebration when you turn eighteen

Which is the coming of age for us

And then twenty one as well

I think eighteen is when you can drink So that’s when we cerebrate eighteen

And then twenty one that’s when you are an adult

So you do kind of like a cerebration?

But no kimono

For us it’s fifteen for girls

So they have a big party

For guys it’s usually twenty first I don’t know why but yeah

In mid August it’s season called Obon in Japan

So people come back home

And we go to cemetery to wash and clean up

And pray for our ancestors

Do you have something like that?

No but I really think that’s nice

So only Christmas time That’s the time you gather with everyone?

And easter as well

But you two have a cemetery right?

Yes

Do you ever wash it?

No

Ah no

I’ve never been to cemetery actually

Really?

Never yeah

So last one is gonna be like this

When you go to a Japanese wedding As a common sense

You have to bring like three hundred dollars or something as a gift

That’s a lot

Do you do that?

Not there hundred but we take a gift

Usually we have a present list

You can choose from there or you can take money

Actually during the wedding we go around with some sort of like

A container and make some noise to each table and

People have to contribute like

Pay me!

So we have to contribute a little bit

And if they don’t, they’ll make fun of them and stuff

And then we cut the tie and give them a little bit of the groom’s tie if you contribute good

We get a little cuts od the tie

So it be a sign of good luck for you yeah?

Like a souvenir from the wedding

That’s sweet

So last question is gonna be like this Do you have any unique in your country?

I have carnivals Have you heard of carnivals?

The Rio carnival?

That’s the one

Everywhere

Rio, Sao Paulo, Bahia everywhere

So not only Rio but everywhere in Brazil

It’s a public holiday for like seven days

Four days

But then it goes together with weekend So it kind of becomes seven

So it’s just like party party

We cerebrate the Queen’s jubilee and the Queen’s birthday

What do you do?

It’s just like a big party

Still being very English

That’s really interesting

Thank you very much guys

Enjoy your day
