1組目 イングランド出身の看護師2人に聞いてみた

Where are you guys from?

Um, England, Yorkshire.

I’m from near Liverpool.

Alright this is uh, well it’s been a long time since I filmed with English people last time. Exciting! Um, what do you guys do in Australia?

Um, we’re both nurses so we came over here.

Yeah, I’m a nurse as well we got here in August.

Helping people from Covid, ey?

It’s a busy time wasn’t it?

Uh, yeah not as bad as at home though.

It’s a lot busier at home.

It was really bad at home but it seems to get a little bit better here now so.

Yeah right. Are you guys enjoying life here in Australia?

Love it.

Yeah, I love it. It’s great yeah.

All right, I have questions that I want to ask you guys today which is about my country Japan and I’ll ask you a bit of a question about your country as well.

Have you been to Japan before by any chance?

No.

Interesting. Any Asian countries?

I’ve been to China.

Nowhere for me.

Why didn’t you choose Japan?

Um, it was a university trip with nursing so I went for two weeks to Shanghai, and then to Jiaxing?

I have no idea much about China. Okay, um, so it’s a very random question but when you hear Japan, do you have any a positive images about it? It doesn’t have to be correct but like do you have something positive about Japan?

Um, I think the cultures are very different and very interesting.

In a good way.

Yeah in a good way yeah.

Yeah I think that as well. I’d think of like a nice clean country and clean think of like blossoms and pink cherry blossoms.

Beautiful views and images.

Okay, um, so this is a little bit tricky I think, but if you have to say something negative about Japan, it doesn’t have to be correct but you probably heard, “In Japan, do you guys really do this?”, or “Is it really happening in Japan?”, “Do you really eat this?” sort of thing? Do you have something like that?

Um, I think maybe the food, yeah.

I’ve heard like unique things about what you might eat and things like that.

Oh, do you have any specific?

Like dogs? That’s what… I don’t know.

So that’s your image?

Okay, um, we Japanese don’t eat the dogs, but I would say, this is gonna definitely make you feel like yuck. Its Japanese people eat horse sashimi. And I know that this is a big no to Western country people.

I’ve got a horse so-

No, definitely not.

Okay, last question, give me something you definitely believe that things of your country are definitely better than Japanese. It could be like culture-wise, people-wise government help, or anything because probably you don’t know much about Japan so you could say, England is definitely better than many countries, like do you have something like that?

We have quite a lot of freedom in England, kind of like do what you want and like, travel and there’s no like, restrict kind of place to live. I don’t really know much about Japan but when I went to China in Asia , it seemed like quite strict that the culture they live in but I think we have quite a lot of freedom in England.

Yeah, like no judgment from people and stuff?

Yeah, kind of do what you want.

I’d probably say the National Health Service, the NHS that we’ve got at home, obviously it’s um-

Yeah very good. Everything’s free isn’t it?

Yeah, free health care for everyone.

Do you have to pay for it, like, every month?

Nothing. Like, no insurance like-

No doctor’s appointment, hospital, ambulance-

Unbelievable.

That’s really good. Alright, thank you very much for your help.

2組目 韓国出身の女性2人に聞いてみた

Are you very shy?

Yeah

Alright, where are you from?

Uh, I’m from Korea.

Korea, yeah, same.

Big city?

Uh, I’m from countryside.

I’m from Seoul.

Seoul, a big city. So have you ever been to Japan by any chance?

Yeah, I’ve been to Japan.

Oh, really? Where did you go?

I’ve been to Osaka Kansai area, I’ve been to Kobe Nara Osaka.

Okay, how about you?

Tokyo.

Why didn’t you go to Tokyo?

Uh, it was a package trip, I was 15 years old, my family just sent me to join the package tour so I couldn’t have any choice to go to the other parts of Japan.

I know that many Japanese people go to Korea because you know, the Korean dramas, music and stuff you know, lots of Korean fans in Japan, but um, what did you think about Japan? Did you enjoy it?

Yeah, I really enjoyed it.

Was it like similar to Korea or different?

Different.

Um, I feel like many parts of things are quite similar but there is also a difference as well.

How about Japanese guys by the way?

Japanese guys?

Well, I was too young when I traveled to Japan so I met many Japanese people since I lived in Australia. They are nice and a bit shy.

Shyer than Korean guys, you think?

Yeah, of course but I think that’s the because of the language barrier because we can communicate in

Korean if I meet Korean guys but with Japanese people I only have to speak in English and some of them are very shy to speak in English.

It’s true. Okay, so my question is going to be like this: If I say Japan instantly, what sort of positive image do you have about Japan? Do you have any positive image about Japan? What’s the biggest one?

Um, kind people.

Kind people. So people’s like, friendly-

Clean?

Like you mean the streets and stuff?

Yeah, clean stuff and… technology.

Korean technology is getting better though.

How about streets? Was it better than Korean streets?

Korea is pretty good too.

Yeah, I can’t really remember when I travel.

It was clean.

So I know this is going to be a little bit difficult question. If you have any negative image about Japan or something like, “Oh, I’ve heard Japanese people do this.”, “People do this in Japan”, “People do this”, or “Japanese people eat this”, “Oh, a little bit crazy”, like do you have something like that?

I can’t read their mind because they are very kind.

I heard about “Honne tama…”

“Honne to tatemae”

Something like, it’s not negative but-

Yeah what they show is quite different from what they think inside because I used to work with lots of Japanese people, I used to work in a Japanese restaurant and there are so many Koreans who can speak Japanese as well and they all studied in Japan, they graduated university in Japan and they told me about-

“Honne to tatemae”

Yeah, that kind of thing.

Wow, this is interesting that’s true. I think “Honne to tatemae” is like what you’re really thinking or like why you like it kind of like pretending in front of people, it’s very difficult to read for non-Japanese people, I guess. Wow, interesting. Last question: give me something you really believe that things of your country which are definitely better than Japanese.

Oh, that’s tricky question.

Something like, K-pop is amazing like, better than Japanese pop or something like this or culture-wise, people-wise, government help, anything.

I would say, adopting the new technology things. I’ve heard that Japanese people still prefer carrying cash, right?

And I’ve heard that many shops still don’t accept card payment.

Yeah, but in Korea, we use Samsung Pay everywhere especially young generations, they don’t have like, coin or cash at all in their purse so-

This is really good because I talked about this in another video before and then people say, “Oh because Japan has earthquake”, and “What if the electricity is gone”, whatever, you know you can’t use the POS system or something like that, but technology is really good-

Even if something happens, they should still be able to use the electric payment-

I think, that’s what I believe. Anyway that was interesting. How about you?

Uh I think just like, uh, TV series like K-pop.

Culture sort of things.

Interesting, alright thank you very much ladies that was a really good interview

Yeah, thank you for having me.
